October 19, 2023

Tarmac’s Tunstead Cement Plant, located near Buxton, in the Peak District, opened its gates to host a family day event, allowing colleagues to share their workplace with their loved ones.

Alejandro Soria, plant manager, along with Linda Grooby, plant administrator, and Joanne Beresford, plant coordinator led the event and activities, showcasing site operations with colleagues and their families. On the day, the plant was non-operational to ensure a safe and relaxed environment throughout the event.

Children enjoyed a variety of activities, with rides, face painting, and arts and crafts providing fun for all and a wider insight into the construction industry. The site’s trusty CAT digger was also on display, and children got a chance to hop in and capture some memorable snapshots.

Alejandro said: “Turning our Tunstead plant into a space of joy and community during the family day was truly heartwarming. The wonderful blend of our work and family lives not only created a fantastic day but also strengthened our community. A massive thank you to everyone who made the day so memorable.”

Tarmac’s Tunstead site is a significant and historically important operation within Tarmac and includes quarrying, lime, building products and cement operations. Since the site was established in the 1920s, it has supplied aggregates, cement and lime for a wide range of uses to create the UK’s built environment and across a variety of industries including construction, food and agriculture, and water.
