Green fingered residents of Buxton get ready for third annual garden trail

May 24, 2018

As London’s annual horticultural showcase comes to close, keen gardeners in Buxton are busy putting the finishing touches to their own works of art! It’s only a couple of weeks until keen gardeners around Buxton unveil the results of their hard work in the third annual Buxton Garden Trail (9 and 10 June).

The event has gone from strength to strength with over 30 taking part this year. Organisers, the Buxton Garden Trail Community Group are pleased with the support they are seeing so far and are hoping for an increased number of visitors over the two days.

“This year we are delighted to present visitors with a unique way to spot the participating gardens as they follow the map and walk around the trail,” says Jo Holdway, one of the organisers. “Local company Tarmac, who have committed to sponsoring the event for three years, have used their technical expertise to manufacture in their workshops large metal flowers which will be used as a common sign to look out for.”

The gardens which will be marked with these new flower signs vary from very small to landscaped two-acre planted areas, with a range of styles including Japanese, Bonsai based; family friendly; wildlife; woodland; community; cottage and traditional English. The gardeners will be available to offer hints and tips on their areas of specialism.

Visitors buy maps to find their way around the area and visit as many beautiful gardens as possible. The sale of the maps generates funds for local charities, Blythe House, Dementia Care and the Befriending Service in the Peaks.

Tarmac’s Reg Gartside who coordinated the production of the flowers, adds: “The team enjoyed turning their skills to something a bit different. We are pleased to be able to support the event in this practical way, as well as with sponsorship, and we hope it raises a large amount of money for these very good causes.”
