Young fell runners in Buxton are sporting smart new neck warmers for their training and competitions. Whilst in the recent heatwave, they have been more useful for keeping the sun off heads, Tarmac’s Tunstead site was pleased to be able to support the team in such a practical way.
The Buxton AC Juniors fell running team, aged six to 18, are currently the High Peak and Derbyshire ‘Junior Team of the Year’. They take part in local regional and national competitions and were the Silver Medal winning team in the English Junior Fell Championships last season.
Buxton AC Juniors are an inclusive club who welcome all youngsters regardless of ability and fitness levels, providing quality, safe, fun and friendly training to improve a child’s flexibility, co-ordination, balance, speed and endurance for all sports. Members have the opportunity to take part in sports hall, cross country, track and field as well as fell running.
Rachel Dowle from the club said: “These are a great bit of kit that can be used in a variety of ways including being a compulsory bit of kit in winter conditions on the Fells.”
Chris Bradbury, Tunstead Cement Plant Manager added: “When we made this donation we had winter warmth in mind for these young committed fell runners! We are pleased that the ‘buffs’ have also been useful in the unusually hot recent weather and we look forward to hearing about the team’s ongoing success.”
