‘If you can’t see the driver, the driver can’t see you’ – that was the message presented at Buxton Community School this week during an event to educate 150 Year 7 students about safety around lorries.

Local residents and visitors approaching Buxton via Fairfield Road will have a brighter welcome to the town, now that flower planters have been installed on railings along that route.

Tarmac volunteers have celebrated reaching an impressive volunteering milestone by carrying out some dry-stone walling at North Lees Campsite on the Peak District National Park’s Stanage-North Lees Estate. Since 2015 employees at the company’s Tunstead site have completed 4000 hours of volunteering in the area, with work ranging from Peak District National Park conservation, to supporting local schools by running CV writing workshops.

For hundreds of years, quarries have played a vital role in the economy and history of the area around Buxton in Derbyshire. Now, they are the central focus for a high-profile exhibition that opened at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery on 7th September.

It’s not just at a national level that women’s’ football is making its mark through the Lionesses; local teams are also on the up including new local club, SK Vipers. The club is going from strength to strength and has recently been boosted with the addition of a ladies’ team.

Buxton Community School has joined forces with local employer Tarmac to spotlight engineering as a positive and rewarding career choice. A group of 24 Year 7 students visited the Tunstead cement plant and took part in practical workshops to mark International Women in Engineering Day 2019.

In its fourth year, the Buxton Garden Trail is to grow bigger and better with more gardens featured and unusual interesting features added.

Following a successful first year which reached over 100 young children and their families, High Peak Community Arts is running a second year of a creative arts project to promote the joy of books in Early Years settings around Buxton and the High Peak.

Visitors to Fernilee Reservoir in the Goyt Valley will soon be able to ‘sit back and enjoy the views’ with ease, thanks to work taking place to improve access and facilities.

Our short winter days and gloomy autumn evenings will no longer hamper the opportunities for tennis players in Buxton. Thanks to a major grant from a national Tarmac fund, Buxton Tennis Club is making plans to install a state-of-the-art floodlight system.
