New lease of life for Dove Holes village hall

Dove Holes residents are looking forward to more community gatherings now that their village hall has had a makeover. Thanks to a major grant from Tarmac’s national Landfill Communities Fund,* the hall has been redecorated, new sofas and coffee tables have been installed and the kitchen and toilets have had a revamp.

This weekend at Tarmac’s Tunstead site, a hard-working, former member of the quarrying team came back to visit. But this former worker was a bright yellow 23 tonne steam locomotive, known as the ‘Clockwork Lemon’ and, after being restored to all its former glory, it was given a VIP welcome!

Volunteering team gives boost to Buxton’s serpentine community farm

A group of volunteers from Tarmac’s Lime business at Tunstead has shown how teamwork really can make a difference to a project reliant on community support. The team of 11 joined forces to spend a day at the Serpentine Community Farm in Buxton, giving some elbow grease and attention to much in need areas of this community facility in Serpentine Walks.

Innovative fuel plant installation is positive environmental move for Tarmac

In an innovative move for the UK cement industry, Tarmac is making a positive environmental step by installing a waste-derived fuel processing plant at its Tunstead cement works. The plant is producing ‘Specialised Fuel’ – a unique type of Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) to be used in the cement manufacturing process.
